Understanding your needs
Jigs & Fixture Design
“Jig” and “fixture” are the two most common elements of any manufacturing industry and often make confusion regarding its functionality or used interchangeably; however, there are separate and clear characteristics defined for these two tools.
Both the items had their own definitions and many individuals tried to explain the same with their own words and ways. A jig guides the cutting tool whereas a fixture references the cutting tool.
Jigs are supplied with tool guiding elements such as drill bushes which direct the tool to the required position on the workpiece. Jig hardly clamped with machine tables and usually on the move to align the various bushings with the machine spindle.
A fixture is a work-holding or support device used in the manufacturing industry. Fixtures are used to securely locate (position in a specific location or orientation) and support the work, ensuring that all parts produced using the fixture will maintain conformity and interchangeability.
Evercon uses jigs and fixtures for every manufacturing processes for part manufacturing and assemblies to avoid error and using jigs and fixtures, Evercon improves the economy of production by allowing smooth operation and quick transition from part to part, reducing the requirement for skilled labor by simplifying how workpieces are mounted, and increasing conformity across a production run.
Type of Jigs:
- Template Jigs
- Angle-Plate Jigs
- Plate Jigs
- Leaf Jigs
Among the aforementioned types, template jigs are most commonly used in almost every manufacturing industry because of the simple and higher accuracy rate which makes it ideal to use.
Fixture tools are sub-divided into three categories based on the machining operation, usage, and power source.
Fixture tools
Based on Machining Operation
- Turning Fixture
- Milling Fixture
- Drilling Fixture
- Boring Fixture
- Grinding Fixture
Based on Usage
- Universal Fixture
- Special Fixture
- Assembled Fixture
- Modular Fixture
- Combination Fixture
Based on Power Source
- Manual Fixture
- Pneumatic Fixture
- Hydraulic Fixture
- Electric Fixture
- Magnetic Fixture
- Vacuum Fixture
Design complicacy is more with jigs compared to fixture design with respect to their construction.
Evercon team always investigate the component to know the following points before design the jig and fixture –
- Detail study of the component
- Check all the possibilities with respect to the locating elements
- To understand the type and capacity of machine
- To know the loading and unloading arrangement
- To analyze the clamping arrangement
- Power devices and safety factors
- To check all the clearances from the components
- Study of ejecting devices, indexing devices and table fixing arrangements
Evercon group
- Produce jigs and fixtures and define them in all aspects to ease worker’s understanding and simplify the mountings.
- Makes regular quality check of the jigs and fixtures to avoid any kind of error.
- Sorts the different part jigs and fixtures to ease the production run with proper pace.
- Design each and every profile jig and fixtures require to produce the child parts, semi-assembly and final assembly.
- To analyze the clamping arrangement
- Keeps different varieties of clamps for the jigs and fixture mountings to avoid any kind of complexity in the manufacturing process times.
Advantages of Jigs & Fixtures:
- Reduce the operational costs and increase productivity.
- With a small training, a semi-skilled or unskilled worker can perform the job without any obstacle and can save man-hour cost and ultimately the product cost.
- Reduce the scrap generation and make cost reduction in the product to customer
- Uniformity in the components and can be interchangeable for the similar ones.
Materials for Jigs & Fixtures:
- High Speed Steels
- Die Steels
- Spring Steels
- Case Hardening Steels
- Carbon Steels
- High Tensile Steels
- Mild Steels
- Cast Iron
- Hardened Aluminum
